Legal Manager France & Southern Europe to join the Continental European legal department of Goodman.

Goodman is looking for a Legal Manager France and Southern Europe to join its Continental European legal department. Unique opportunity for a dynamic qualified lawyer with at least 8-10 years of experience in corporate/M&A and real estate law and with excellent commands of English, French and Spanish.

In order to strengthen its European legal department Goodman is currently looking for a Legal Manager France and Southern Europe.

As a Legal Manager you will proactively identify and mitigate all legal risks with a strong focus on the managing and resolving of all legal issues relating to the real estate development, M&A and property management of Goodman and its Partnerships (Funds and Joint Ventures) in France (Paris office), Spain (Madrid office) and Italy (Milan office).

Accountabilities & duties

The position’s key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and resolving legal issues in relation to real estate development (mainly relating to real estate acquisition and disposal -rent/lease –sale –contracting –architectural services) in France and Southern Europe;
  • Identify risks related to projects and structures and suggest and apply legally accepted and attractive solutions to make given transactions feasible from a functional and legal perspective;
  • Negotiating and reviewing commercial contracts with customers and third parties;
  • Providing fellow legal managers with on time, pro-active and accurate support within your field(s) of expertise;
  • Working in close collaboration with the wider European and Global legal and risk team and with the business and technical development managers in the different countries;
  • Practice “preventive law” by training and educating employees on general legal and development matters;
  • Involving and liaise with external law firms in an effective way and at fair cost when necessary;
  • Ensure the coordination of legal disputes and/or litigation.

Relationships

  • Internally, as member of the legal department, based in Paris, France, the Legal Manager will report to the Head of Legal Continental Europe, based in Belgium (Vilvoorde) and will be working in close collaboration with the wider European and Global legal and risk team and with the business and technical development managers in the different countries;
  • Externally the Legal Manager will liaise with and manage outside counsel.

Perfil

  • Law degree from a University in France or Spain, obtained with excellent results; additional degree or LLM is a clear asset;
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience (attorney at law and/or legal manager with experience in cross boarder commercial transactions) and in the different aspects of corporate and real estate law: rent/lease –M&A–contracting –architectural services;
  • Experience in international projects required;
  • Having a strong experience in contract drafting and negotiation;
  • Excellent command both orally and written of English, French and Spanish (one of these languages being your native language). Additional languages (especially Italian) are a clear asset;
  • Being highly professional with high integrity and interpersonal skills, excellent in analyzing legal issues and in providing pragmatic tailor-made solutions, being up to speed with current market evolution, being flexible and committed to bottom line result, outgoing and pro-active, being a quick thinker and stress resistant, being a team player and computer literate;
  • Able to travel (short periods) on short notice within Europe and to work on multiple projects under tight time pressures in a fast-changing environment; Open to longer stay in Brussels office during induction period.
  • Able to operate without significant supervision, and independently handle most complex matters.
